The total quarantine period for Australia is 210 days of which at least three months must be done in South Africa and at least one month in Australia. The remaining three months may be done either here or there. Pet owners may visit their pets during this period.

Australia has quarantine facilities in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne.

At Kookaburra we do everything:

  • boarding and all required control measures
  • all the documentation, reservation for further quarantine at the final destination, medical tests, import permits, delivery to the airport, transport arrangements and documentation, everything!

The procedure for New Zealand follows a slightly different route.

There are a few quarantine facilities in New Zealand where your pet will be kept for 120 days. New Zealand requires no quarantine in South Africa but pet owners still have to adhere to a strict protocol before export. This has to commence six months before export to New Zealand.

Alternatively, you may follow the route through Australia and we do it all, starting three months before export. On completion of their quarantine in Australia, your pets will be flown to New Zealand with no further quarantine needed.

Quarantine charges in South Africa are by quotation, depending on the number of pets (in one family), size, etc. We discount more than one pet.

Pets must be at least nine (9) months old at the time of export.

PLEASE NOTE:

The following breeds are prohibited from entering Australia and New Zealand:

  • Dogo Argentino
  • Fila Brasileiro
  • Tosa Inu
  • Pit Bull Terrier
  • American Pit Bull Terrier

Also

  • Puppies younger than 9 months
  • Bitches more than 6 weeks in whelp or with suckling young
  • ALL BIRDS and other exotic pets, such as snakes!
